November giveaway! mini christmas tree bunting
I'm so excited about my first ever give away here on {re}purposed mind!
I've been making bunting for about two years now and just love decorating with it. Somehow bunting seems to cheer up any room or party so I figured, why not make mini bunting to hang on the Christmas tree...
Isn't it just darling? Please forgive my poor photographic skills and lack of imagination where setting is concerned. There are hardly any nice light areas of my home at the moment what with these miserably grey days we are having and Lord knows how to turn the flash on with my husband's fancy shmancy camera!
The winner gets this cutesy shabby chic mini bunting garland for their christmas tree.
All you have to do to enter is subscribe to my blog by adding your email to the 'Follow by Email' box on the left hand side of my blog (scroll down till you see it) and click submit!
If you want you can enter two additional entries by liking me on facebook and twitter
Leave me a comment below letting me know you've entered and where you've entered. Entries close on Wednesday 30 November and a winner will be drawn on 1 December 2011.
Good luck and tell your friends!

12 weeks of Christmas - covered baubles
So my BFF came over and after lots of chatting and me sobbing I finally landed up feeling better. Then we went over to her house and took some pictures of the Christmassy bits I've been working on. Here's my favourite of the lot.
Aren't these covered baubles cute? I can't wait to see them on the tree. They're super easy to make and a really good way of jazzing up old tired looking baubles without breaking the bank. Here's what you'll need to make them:
Pinking shears
Fabric
Wire edged ribbon
Jingle bell
Elastic band
Using a large dinner plate draw a circle on the wrong side of your fabric with taylors chalk and cut out with pinking shears.
Place the bauble into the centre of the fabric with the section for hanging the bauble facing up. Gather up the fabric so it fits around the bauble and tied with an elastic band.
Next slide the elastic band up a bit and wrap your wribbon around the top of the bauble around the top of the fabric closest to the bauble. Pull really tight and tie - don't make a bow yet. Remove the elastic band. Slide the jingle bell onto ribbon until it's in the middle of where the bow will tie. Tie the ribbon into a bow. Now fuss with the ribbon on the fabric sticking up from the ribbon until it looks nice and neat.
There you have it! Easy right?
Just look at these contrasting colours and fabrics.
I'm so happy with how they came out. What do you think?

12 weeks of Christmas - Festive hot chocolate
I made this recipe for the first time last year and it was such a hit I've been begged to make it again this year. My festive hot chocolate is exactly what you need for the run up to Christmas while you wrap gifts and is perfect as a gift. Because of the minty flavour it feels Christmassy long after you've counted down on New Years.
Of course I wanted to make it even more festive this year so I've added teeny marshmallows which I think look great stuffed into the top of the jar.
Here's the recipe:
1 x 400g jar of your favourite hot chocolate (plain variety)
1/2 small bag of clear hard mint sweets, crushed
100g chocolate chips (you can either use milk chocolate or experiment with dark or white chocolate)
Mini marshmallows
In a bowl mix the hot chocolate, crushed mints and chocolate chips together well. Place into a decorative jar that seals well and top with mini marshmallows.
Decorate the jar with a gift tag, ribbon and a candy cane for a Christmas gift.
On the tag write:
Mix 3 teaspoon hot chocolate in a mug with hot milk or water. Stir and enjoy.
Do you make your own hot chocolate mix? What gifts are you making from your kitchen this year?

The black dog
Last night DH made me feel a bit better by being sympathetic (while this is not a first it's not often forthcoming from him so it was nice) and gave me hugs. It did abate the feeling a little but I still find myself haunted by what Churchill called his 'black dog' today.
DD is being super cute and I just can't engage with her. I just wish I my mom lived here so she could babysit DD overnight. One would think that given the chance of a night off I would pamper myself but to be honest, I just want to curl up on my bed and sleep. That's the thing about PND. It's a debilitating illness. You feel as if the sun hasn't come up in your world for a few months and nobody has turned on the lights to your soul. So you sit there in the dark knowing where the light switch is, knowing that all you have to do is get up and turn it on but you're incapable of doing so. You're rooted to the spot like a petrified rock and the more you think about getting up to turn on the light, the more rooted you become in the depths of your failure and inability. It's like that damned black dog sits between you and the light switch telling you what a failure you are and how you'll never be able to reach the light. The more you try to ignore him, the less you can help hearing him and the more you hear him, the bigger he gets until he's consuming the room and you're not sure where he ends and you begin.
I guess I need to get out for the day but I don't know where to go. My two friends who would understand where I am at right now are either sick with flu or having enough issues themselves right now and are not in a place to support me. DH has so much shit going on at work this week that there's no way in hell he can take a day off to be with me either. My poor DD is going to have to let the TV babysit her again today because I just can't do it. Yet another thing to feel guilty about.
Looks like it's just me, the baby and the black dog today

That PND feeling
I have that feeling again. That rock bottom desolate numb feeling that seeps into my mind and my soul making me ambivalent to the world. Ambivalent to my child and my husband and my friends. The kind of feeling that makes me want to lie on the floor in a darkened cell and waste away into the nothingness I feel inside. I have two awsome 12 weeks of Christmas items to share with you but I just can't right now. I can't force myself to feel all festive and cheerful.
I'm sorry

Same old Sundays
My husbands favourite thing to do on the weekend is sit on the sofa and watch tv. Either the football, rugby, grand prix or fishing. I hate sitting on the sofa doing nothing and I especially hate sports. He says he's sat there because he doesn't want to go out and spend unnecessary money. Fair enough buy doesn't he realise that you don't have to spend money every time you leave you home? I suggest loads of things like going down to the park or a nature walk or even just getting into the garden. All are met with the 'I'd rather just relax here,' comment. It's infuriating! Especially since we aren't allowed to make a noise while he watches sport. You try telling a 15 month old she's not allowed to make a noise!
Doesn't he realise (should do I've told him enough times) that not only do I hate just sitting in front of the telly but I'm stuck in the house (money is tight) all week. Sure I go for a walk round the shops and see friends but when it comes to weekends I want to spend family time with him. I don't want to watch him watch the telly, bring him his meals in front of the telly and try to keep DD busy so she won't interrupt his tv time. Quite frankly I'm fed up with it.
The new meds the dr put me on seem to be working. Its been a nasty road getting them to work into my system though. I feel able to cope although the problem now is motivating myself to engage in the scintillating task of homemaking.

Oh what a night
Last night was a bad one. DH kept me awake until 12:00 with his snoring and I'd no sooner chased him into the spare bedroom when DD woke up and wouldn't settle. She woke again at 04:00 with a poopy nappy and a rash like I've never seen. Poor little thing is probably teething. Since I'd had less than 4 hours sleep I gave her to DH who was awake and watching telly and I went back to bed for a couple hours.
I've woken up and strangely feel better than I have in a few days. I'm hoping this means I'm over this lurgy! Big thanks to Kass for bringing me orange juice and coming to keep me company yesterday.
I have another driving lesson today and then later DH is taking DD swimming. I'm thinking of using that time for a house blitz! Ambitious talk I know but I fully intend to give it a go.

The difference a year can make
My husband brought his digital photo frame home and set it up in the kitchen for me. On it, the scrolling pictures were of DD from the day she was born up until just after Halloween last year. I stood drinking my coffee this morning watching the slide show and marvelling at how she's grown.
I dressed her up as a mummy for her first halloween
and a little witch for her second halloween... I can't believe she's grown into such a little lady...
